HBO has picked up the sci-fi fantasy saga Dune: Prophecy for a second run. Season 2 will be coming to a TV box near you soon.
The mentats at HBO have run the viewership numbers and concluded that, yes, Dune: Prophecy should be given a second series. The season 2 announcement comes mere days before the first runās finale is due to air ā expect episode 6 to stream on your TV from the 22nd December in the US and in the early hours of the 23rd December in the UK.
At a press conference on the 19th December, showrunner Alison Schapker broke the season 2 news ā and quite understandably, sheās rather excited about the prospect of continuing the sci-fi fantasy saga.
“We’re so thrilled and grateful for their support, for our partners at Legendary, and most of all that we get to keep working with these incredible people in front of and behind the camera and get to keep telling this story,” Schapker said, per The Hollywood Reporter.
Although itās visually of a piece with the take on Dune brought to the screen by director Denis Villeneuve, Dune: Prophecy is only loosely connected to its events. Itās set 10,000 years before the movies (and for that matter Frank Herbertās source novel), and explores the early progress of the Harkonnen family and the nun-like Bene Gesserit. In short, the Harkonnens arenāt bald and into kinky black vinyl yet, and the Bene Gesserit arenāt called the Bene Gesserit ā theyāre simply the Sisterhood, and they quietly control the Imperium from their headquarters on the dank planet Wallach IX.

Emily Watson and Olivia Williams play a pair of Harkonnen sisters intent on repairing their damaged family name and using their unearthly powers of persuasion to get a member of their order onto the throne. For the past week, the series has provided a rich and at times bewildering stew of conspiracies and intrigue. Although not without its flaws (which weāve detailed in our reviews of each episode, if youāre so inclined), the show has attracted around 15m viewers worldwide since it began airing in November. As a result, the story of the scheming sisters will continue.
There isnāt a premiere window for Dune: Prophecy season 2 at this early stage, though weāll no doubt hear more in due course.
