The Man With The Miraculous Hands will see Woody Harrelson play a physician opposite one of the leading figures of the Nazi movement.
Woody Harrelson has signed up for The Man With The Miraculous Hands, an independent movie coming from Jerico Films. The project is based on the Joseph Kessel novel, The Man With The Miraculous Hands: The Fantastic Story Of Felix Kersten, Himmler’s Private Doctor.
Kersten was both physician and prisoner to Himmler, one of the leading figures in the Nazi party during WWII. As he was able to relieve Himmler’s crippling abdominal pains, this gave Kersten a degree of influence with Himmler which he used to negotiate for the lives of thousands of concentration camp prisoners.
It certainly sounds like it has the makings of a tense two-hander drama, although the casting of Himmler has yet to be announced. The film will be directed by Oren Moverman who has also collaborated with Harrelson previously on Rampart and The Messenger.
Producer Eric Jehelmann had this to say about the project: “Even 70 years on after the end of the conflict, the Second World War still manages to reveal some of the most deeply moving untold stories of those who managed to triumph against adversity.”
“The revelations in his novel allow us to shed new light on the end of the war and gain a better understanding of how one could imagine a future world whilst not only managing to save his own life but through his courage, managed to save the lives of thousands of others.”
It’s an intriguing project and certainly a departure from the next role we’ll see Harrelson in, when he stars as Cletus Kassady/Carnage in the upcoming Sony superhero sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage opposite Tom Hardy. That film is currently slated for a September 2021 release.
