Wonder Woman 1984: latest on UK release details

Talks are underway between Warner Bros and Sky that may being Wonder Woman 1984 to on demand services in January in the UK. Notwithstanding the fact that the ongoing tier system in England is leaving a large swathe of cinemas closed, Warner Bros is pressing ahead with the release of Wonder Woman 1984 in two weeks’ time. The film will definitely be making its UK bow on Wednesday 16^th December, just over two weeks ahead of the film premiering on the HBO Max streaming service in the US. Variety meanwhile is now reporting that there are plans to fast-track Wonder Woman 1984 going to a premium video on demand service relatively quickly across the UK too. It reports that Warner Bros is in negotiations with Sky, in a deal that could potentially see the sequel made available via Sky Box Office in January. This hasn’t been confirmed and indeed Variety reckons that a deal hasn’t been inked as of yet. But it does say that “discussions are in advanced stages”. Should everything be signed off, it’d shrink the theatrical window for the movie down from the usual 15 to 16 weeks in the UK for blockbuster releases dramatically. Yet with Cineworld not opening its doors until next year and plenty of cinemas remaining closed under current tier conditions, Warner Bros doesn’t have quite the plate of options it had when it came to releasing Tenet over the summer.
