Will Sharpe is set to direct an adaptation of Crying In H Mart, penned by Michelle Zauner – more details on the project here.
The White Lotus is one of the biggest television hits of the last few years. Mike White’s ode to the salacious goings on at the eponymous resort won countless awards and critical acclaim. One of the stars of the second series was Will Sharpe, who previously was better known as a filmmaker, co-directing the unsettling comedy Black Pond and, most recently, The Electrical Life of Louis Wain.
He has set his next project as director too, which will be an adaptation of Michelle Zauner’s memoir Crying In H Mart.
It follows “a half-Korean daughter who returns to small town Oregon to care for her Korean mother. Critical and smothering Chong-mi and creative and independent Michelle struggle to understand each other across a cultural fault line, only learning to see and accept one another through the formative power of music and the vibrant flavours of Korean cooking”.
Sharpe will direct and Zauner will adapt her own book for MGM’s Orion Pictures.
