Wes Anderson’s latest star-studded production will arrive in cinemas next summer, it has been announced.
Wes Anderson’s next film is inbound, and now we have a release date to look forward to. Following a production that took place in Spain at the tail-end of last year, it has been announced that Asteroid City will release in June of 2023, courtesy of Focus Features in the US and Universal in the UK.
The film looks like being the director’s take on a story we’ve seen plenty of times before, that being the classic Earthbound asteroid tale. According to the synopsis, ‘the itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention (organised to bring together students and parents from across the country for fellowship and scholarly competition) is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events’ in an fictional American desert town in the 1950s.
As is standard for Anderson, he seems to have employed half of Hollywood for the film, including the talents of Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Ed Norton, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis, Stephen Park, Rupert Friend, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie, Tony Revolori, Jake Ryan, Grace Edwards, Aristou Meehan, Sophia Lillis, Ethan Lee, Jeff Goldblum and Rita Wilson.

That idyllic 1950s American ‘desert oasis’ is an aesthetic that we saw depicted beautifully in this year’s Don’t Worry, Darling which boasted some gorgeous production design. Of course, when it comes to perfectly designed aesthetics, Anderson is always in the conversation in whichever genre he works in, so we’re very keen to see what he brings this era of iconic American design.
