Tom Hiddleston takes the lead role in the latest National Theatre At Home production, that’s streaming on YouTube for free from tonight.
The weekly programme from the National Theatre, of releasing one filmed production a week onto its YouTube channel for free, continues tonight. It started this programme when lockdown began, and these are the plays and shows that it had been beaming into cinemas over the past years.
Tonight’s production, then, brings Tom Hiddleston directly to your home.
He stars in the National Theatre production of William Shakespeare’s Coriolanus. The play was directed by Mary Queen Of Scots director Josie Rourke, and also in the cast are Mark Gatiss, Hadley Fraser, Alfred Enoch and Deborah Findlay.
The version of the show we’re getting was filmed in 2014, and carries a 12A certificate. You’ll be able to find it in the window below from 7pm tonight, or click through to go directly to the National Theatre’s YouTube channel.
The synopsis for the production reads…
Tom Hiddleston (Betrayal, The Avengers, The Night Manager) plays the title role in Shakespeare’s searing tragedy of political manipulation and revenge.
When an old adversary threatens Rome, the city calls once more on her hero and defender: Coriolanus. But he has enemies at home too.
As famine threatens the city, the citizens’ hunger swells to an appetite for change, and on returning from the field, Coriolanus must confront the march of realpolitik and the voice of an angry people.

You’ll have a week to watch the production, with another National Theatre play taking its place next Thursday.
