Sounds like a bunch more Middle Earth movies are going to be heading our way, as Warner Bros inks a brand new deal.
When Peter Jackson delivered to Warner Bros/New Line the last of his six films based on J R R Tolkien’s The Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit, you could be forgiven for thinking that was that. That the Middle Earth screen adventures had come to an end.
Then, of course, Amazon boss Jeff Bezos fancied watching some more, so did. He spent around $1bn to secure the rights for his company, and the TV show Lord Of The Rings: Rings Of Power was the end result. Season two is now on the way.
Warner Bros was already keen to revisit Middle Earth itself, with the animated movie The Lord Of The Rings The War Of The Rohirrim set for release in 2024.
Now though, the company has inked a fresh deal that allows it to make even more movies set around Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit.
The deal has been made with Embracer Group, a Swedish company that snapped up Middle Earth Enterprises from The Saul Zaentz Company in 2022. Peter Jackson has been kept informed of this, although it’s unclear whether he’d be tempted back to that world. However, Warner Bros isn’t going to be spending the money for nothing, and whether Jackson’s on board or not, it seems that more Lord Of The Rings is pretty much a certainty.
More news on all of this as we hear it. It’s already clear that a straight remake of what’s gone before is off the table though, and fresh adventures are instead being explored.
