The Tom Hardy-led Venom sequel ā Let There Be Carnage ā goes back a further three months to find a more secure release date.
The upcoming
Venom sequel,
Let There Be Carnage is still promising oodles of super symbiote-powered mayhem, but not quite as soon as weād thought.
Originally set for a June release in the US at least (well, after its original original release was delayed from 2020), the film has now been pushed back to September, following
Fast & Furious 9ā²s rescheduling to June.
Whichever way you look at it, it promises to be a crowded blockbuster season, with competition for screens and public attention making for some interesting months ahead. Rather than go head-to-head with Universalās monster
Fast & Furious franchise, Sony has instead opted to move
Venom 2 to a September 17th release date where, presently, its only major studio competition is
The Boss Baby: Family Business, coming courtesy of Universal and Dreamworks Animation.
Itās a move that makes sense given that the first
Venom film grossed over $850m worldwide, with that release coming later in the year in October. With the sequel possessing a major role for legendary
Spider-Man villain Carnage (hence the title) and the film already possessing what those marketing bods call āpre-awarenessā thanks to the success of the first, Sony seems confident to reposition the film to September. It should face less competition for IMAX screens too in the autumn.
No release date for the UK has been offered yet, but weāll keep you posted.
Venom: Let There be Carnage is directed by Andy Serkis and will star Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams and Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kassady/Carnage.
