Sony continues to keep fans on their toes with the ever-shifting release date of Venom: Let There Be Carnage.
We’ve lost count of just how many times the upcoming Sony Pictures
Venom sequel,
Let There Be Carnage has been moved at this point, with yet another release date change having been announced. The movie, which was shot back in 2019, was supposed to arrive in October of last year, then it was June of this year, then September, then October and there were reports last week from multiple sources stating that it wouldn’t be with us this year at all.
But what’s this? Sony is now reportedly set to push the film forwards by two weeks now, to the 1st October. This is presently a US-confirmed release, but with piracy being what it is, we can’t see the UK release strategy not following suit.
After so many decisions to push the film back, it’s refreshing to see its release date actually come forwards. It seems like
Shang-Chi And The Legend of the Ten Rings’ solid box office performance of $146m worldwide in its opening weekend has boosted Sony’s confidence as it contemplates putting out a comic book movie featuring a character arguably better known than Shang-Chi. And a sequel to hit movie at that.
It’s easy to sympathise with Sony over the difficulties it has faced here: with no streaming platform of its own to benefit from, the studio is leaning heavily into theatrical releases in a very uncertain environment. Hopefully though, this is the final release date for the film and we see Sony take the same strategy as the US (although it will mean we won’t get an opening night head-to-head between Venom and Michael Myers of the upcoming
Halloween Kills, still set to release on October 15th).
