He stepped away from directing movies for half a decade – but now Uwe Boll is back, and has a new film shooting in New York this spring.
There are those of you out there who may not be familiar with the work of one Uwe Boll. A German movie director who became notable for ‘critically unpopular’ screen adaptations of popular videogames, he then cemented his infamy by offering to take movie critics into the boxing ring. He duly did, and he duly leathered them.
The films though seemed to dwindle, and there was a five or six year gap when he stepped away from directing films, and instead opted to run a restaurant.
Long story short, now he’s directing movies again. Already in post-production is Hanau (Deutschland im Winter – Part 1), a film whose title suggests a part two. And he’s now in pre-production on First Shift, a police drama that’s going to be filming in New York this spring.
Kristen Renton and Gino Anthony Pesi are leading the cast for the film, which follows a New York police officer and his rookie partner over a 12 hour shift. Half a Training Day, if you will.
Boll has written the film too, and he explains that “It was important for me to show both sides of the coin – the exhilarating moments as well as those that can be quite heartbreaking .. Showing the audience the difficulties of forming strong relationships, while enduring stressful experiences, this film expresses the realities that can occur. I’m looking forward to getting back in the director’s chair with this incredible cast”.
No word on a release date as of yet.
