Dev Patel’s upcoming quest of bravery, chivalry and discovery will apparently feature a bit of graphic nudity as well: more details on The Green Knight.
It’s been confirmed that the upcoming A24 adaptation of the Arthurian tale The Green Knight will be rated R in the US. The film dropped an absolutely blinding trailer a while ago, dripping with a haunting mix of horror and tension. What’s more, it was scheduled to release this summer, before being delayed like so many other films due to the pandemic.
Now, with the news (reported by Collider) that that the film has been rated as an R in the US for ‘violence, some sexuality and graphic nudity’, it appears that the movie itself will be fully following through with the unflinching tone promised by that first trailer.
The Green Knight stars Dev Patel as Sir Gawain and is based on the classic tale about the knight’s quest for glory leading him to face the ultimate challenge, that of the titular Green Knight. The film is directed by David Lowery, who helmed A Ghost Story, Pete’s Dragon and The Old Man & the Gun.
There’s no word on a release date yet, but its original scheduled release date – May, in the middle of blockbuster season – gives you an indicator of just how strong a film A24 believe it has on its hands.
