The big screen take on the hit Matilda musical has had to shut down following positive Covid tests on set.
As the UK continues to find itself engulfed in another growing wave of Covid cases, we’re seemingly getting back to that point from late last year when film productions are having to suspend production as cast and crew members begin to test positively for the virus. With production being paused on Netflix’s
Bridgerton just the other day, it is now being reported that Sony and Netflix have now had to do the same with their currently-shooting adaptation of Roald Dahl’s
Matilda as well, after a crew member tested positive for Covid.
Whilst the second unit is still shooting, the production’s first unit has had to pause filming, with it being thought that the shoot might have to be suspended for up to ten days in line with the government’s (current) guidance on self-isolation. As a third wave of Covid sweeps across the UK, it was only a matter of time before that began to affect film production again, and with Netflix’s testing programme supposedly being first-class, it wouldn’t be long before positive test cases were identified. As has proven here to be the case.
Here in the UK, the film will be coming to cinemas courtesy of Sony, whereas Netflix has the global rights for the film. Based on Roald Dahl’s popular 1988 children’s novel,
Matilda features Emma Thompson as Miss Trunchbull, Lashana Lynch as Miss Honey, whilst Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough play Matilda’s parents Mr and Mrs Wormwood.
