Netflix signs Adam Sandler up for four more films.
Netflix, as we chatted about in our feature last week, took a gamble and a half when it initially paid Adam Sandler a small fortune for what was then four movies. But even thought critical notices for the films concerned – The Ridiculous Six, The Do-Over, Sandy Wexler and The Week Of – were not on the favourable side, Netflix itself was delighted with the deal. So much so that it extended it to cover four more films.
The first of those was Murder Mystery, his best for the service and arguably the most popular too. A sequel to that is already on the way. And with Netflix also covering Uncut Gems – although that may be separate to the deal – he’s now at work on Hubie Halloween. He’s also got an animated project he’s working on for Netflix too. But then the deal is edging to a close.
Netflix, though, has announced not only that it’s opted to extend the deal by a further four pictures, but also since The Ridiculous Six was released in 2015, Netflix users have spent two billion hours watching Adam Sandler films on the service. So there’s a statistic to start the week.
No word yet on what most of those news films will be. More news in due course…
