McG will be directing a follow-on to another James Cameron project, as True Lies is set to get a fresh airing as a TV show.
For a long time after the release of the film back in 1994, writer/director James Cameron toyed with making a sequel to the action hit True Lies. The movie marked his third and final collaboration (at least to date) with Arnold Schwarzenegger, and we covered the making of it in a podcast episode right here…
The sequel idea petered out in the aftermath of the September 11th 2001 attacks in the US, and Cameron moved on to develop Avatar instead. But the film is getting a fresh lease of life on the small screen, with the announcement of a spin-off TV show.
A pilot episode has been ordered by the US network CBS, although it won’t have either Arnold Schwarzenegger or Jamie Lee Curtis involved. Camera will be one of the executive producers though, along with McG and Matt Nix.
Nix will also write the script for the pilot episode and McG – who also helmed Terminator: Salvation of course – directing it.
No word on casting as of yet, and McG also has to fit in his commitments to the Turner & Hooch TV series. No word either on the long-awaited Blu-ray of True Lies. Sigh.
