A documentary about pioneering digital artist Steve Williams is one the way, here’s the trailer.
The amazing thing about watching the original Jurassic Park is that, even now, the special effects look fantastic: that the scope and scale of the dinosaurs still take your breath away.
That is down in large part to Steve Williams, who pioneered special effects on the big screen, convincing Steven Spielberg to switch from practical effects to rendering his dinosaurs in computer animation. His story is now being told in a new documentary feature, called Jurassic Punk.
The official description of Jurassic Punk reads as follows:
Steve Williams is considered a pioneer in computer animation. This intimate film examines his life story and events surrounding the historical moment when digital dinosaurs walked onto the silver screen in Jurassic Park. Steve and a chorus of expert witnesses recount a dramatic tale of rebellion and revolution at Lucasfilmās Industrial Light & Magic in the early 1990sā a time when creating realistic creatures with a computer was considered impossible. Decades later, Steve struggles to reckon with his chaotic past.
The film is directed by VFX artist Scott Leberecht, who previously directed 2011 vampire horror Midnight Son. He also produces alongside Gloria Coronado-Myatt and Ayanna Hart.
Jurassic Punk will be released on VOD and in select US cinemas on December 16th, no specific information about a UK release is currently available but we’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
