Trailer released for biopic One Life, starring Anthony Hopkins and Johnny Flynn

Anthony Hopkins stars in biopic One Life, the remarkable story of Nicholas Winton: here’s the first trailer for the film.  One Life is based on the life of Nicholas Winton, a man who was once described as “the British Oskar Schindler”, due to the fact that he rescued 669 children from the Nazis in the lead up to World War Two. Visiting Prague in 1938, he got as many children out of the country as he could before the borders closed, but remained wracked with guilt over those he could not save. The synopsis reads as follows: One Life tells the true story of Sir Nicholas ‘Nicky’ Winton, a young London broker played by Anthony Hopkins, who, in the months leading up to World War II, rescued 669 children from the Nazis. Nicky visited Prague in December 1938 and found families who had fled the rise of the Nazis in Germany and Austria, living in desperate conditions with little or no shelter and food, and under threat of Nazi invasion. He immediately realised it was a race against time. How many children could he and the team rescue before the borders closed? Fifty years later, it’s 1988 and Nicky lives haunted by the fate of the children he wasn’t able to bring to safety in England; always blaming himself for not doing more. It’s not until a live BBC television show, “That’s Life!”, surprises him by introducing him to some surviving children – now adults – that he finally begins to come to terms with the guilt & grief that he had carried for five decades. Anthony Hopkins stars as the older Winter, with Johnny Flynn as the younger version. Lena Olin, Romola Garai, Alex Sharp, Marthe Keller, Jonathan Pryce and Helena Bonham Carter are also in the cast. James Hawes directs from a screenplay by Lucinda Coxon and Nick Drake. One Life will premiere at the BFI London Film Festival on the 12th October, before being released in UK cinemas on the 5th January 2024.
