Things look s set to heat up in the first trailer for Dune: Part Two, ahead of the film’s November release.
We’re six months out from the release of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two and the promotional campaign is grinding into life. Hopes are high for this one given that Villeneuve has earned a reputation for delivering thought-provoking films accompanied by beautiful visuals, even when working inside the blockbuster system.
What’s more, he’s working with one of the best blockbuster ensembles we can recall, including Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin. Also along for the ride are Christopher Walken as Emperor Shaddam IV, ruler of the known universe.
Florence Pugh and Austin Butler will also feature. Pugh will play play Princess Irulan, the daughter of the Emperor, whilst Butler will be portraying Feyd-Rautha, the role played by Sting in the 1984 version of the film directed by David Lynch. Lea Seydoux and Tim Blake Nelson are also set to appear.
Villeneuve is directing from a script he co-wrote with Jon Spaihts. The first Dune grossed a very respectable $400m in cinemas when it opened back in 2021. That’s an impressive haul considering that the film also debuted on the HBO Max streaming service on the very same day although Legendary and Warner Bros will be looking for a higher haul this time.
With Marvel Studios having removed Blade from its original November release date, Dune: Part Two has a pretty clear box office run in the blockbuster stakes, with only Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes releasing the following week, as it currently stands.
With the exception of that movie, the Dune sequel has a clear month’s run to lure in audiences before Wonka and the Aquaman sequel arrive in mid- and late- December respectively.
