An examination of simulation theory from the exacting director of Room 237: hereās the trailer for A Glitch In The Matrix.Room 237, Rodney Ascherās documentary on Stanley Kubrickās The Shining is one of the more interesting, detail-oriented film docs out there. It uses Kubrickās renowned attention to detail as a jumping-off point to explore a number of wild theories about the film, that are as interesting as they are well-argued. If youāre a fan of Kubrick, The Shining or simply admire sharp film deconstruction and havenāt already seen it, weād highly recommend it.
Ascher followed up Room 237 with The Nightmare, a documentary about sleep paralysis, and while he isnāt explicitly returning to cinema for his latest film, itās certainly inspired in part by one of the great films of the last 25 years: 1999ās The Matrix.
Like The Matrix before it, Ascherās film ā A Glitch In The Matrix ā explores the philosophy behind simulation theory, the concept that the world around us is an illusory facade, and that forces unseen are controlling the very nature of our existence. Whilst itās a wild idea, itās one that certainly captures the imagination, as the success of The Matrix proved back in 1999.
If anybody can convincingly argue in favour of simulation theory, (although not everybody needs to be convinced, Elon Musk is reportedly already a believer,) then Ascher is surely the filmmaker to do so, having had success in arguing the legitimacy of improbable theories in Room 237.
Weāre looking forward to seeing this one, which released for purchase on several streaming platforms last Friday. Have a look at the trailer below, and remember, if you experience deja vu todayā¦. that could be a glitch in the Matrixā¦
