Academy Award-winner Josh Cooley has been hired to direct a brand new Transformers origin film, that’s going back to the planet Cybertron.
Plans are moving forward for a brand new Transformers film, the first since the Bumblebee spin-off film earned the best reviews in the live action franchise to date, and conversely the most modest box office returns.
The new film will be an animated one, that’s been backed by Entertainment One and Paramount Pictures. Transformers parent company Hasbro recently bought up EOne, and to our knowledge, this is the first movie that’s a result of that move.
The new film will be a prequel, an origin story set on the planet Cybertron, with the relationship between Optimus Prime and Megatron at the heart of the narrative.
The script has been penned for this one by the Ant-Man & The Wasp team of Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari. And in something of a coup for the production, it’s landed director Josh Cooley to helm it, fresh off winning a Best Animated Feature Oscar for Toy Story 4 earlier this year.
Cooley is working with the writers to get the script to final draft completion. No word yet as to when the movie will be released, but the intention is very much to get this one to cinemas.
