Ride or die in cyberpunk-set Knight Rider-inspired action movie Chariot, based on a new graphic novel: more details here.
Warner Bros has outbid the competition in a recent auction to secure the rights to
Chariot, along with Joseph Kosinki’s services to direct the film. The
TRON: Legacy director has two major releases in the second half of this year with
Top Gun: Maverick set to release in cinemas in November, whilst
Escape From Spiderhead, a Netflix-backed action thriller starring Chris Hemsworth is currently in post production.
Chariot, we have to say, looks like a pretty thrilling concept on paper, especially if you enjoyed the 80s TV show
Knight Rider.
Based on the recently-released graphic novel,
Chariot has been picked up by Warner Bros ‘as a synthwave sci-fi thriller with strong roles for two A-list actors’. The official blurb adds that ‘The Chariot was a Cold War-era secret government project to provide its star agent with a weapon unlike any other in the form of a state-of-the-art sports car. It sank into the ocean decades ago, the agent along with it. A petty criminal looking to reform his life has stumbled upon the Chariot, and he’s about to find out that the agent’s consciousness is still controlling it.’
For those not familiar with the term synthwave, you can expect a neon-lit, garish 80s aesthetic, with lots of retro, synthesised music. The script is being penned by Julian Meiojas, writer of the upcoming DC Extended Universe production,
The Flash. Shawn Levy, one of the key creators behind Netflix’s smash hit,
Stranger Things, is producing.
As soon as we get news about who is taking those ‘those strong roles for two A-list actors’, we’ll let you know.
