Brett Ratner is planning to return to the film industry after four years, following multiple claims of indecent and abusive behaviour.
Reports have surfaced recently that director Brett Ratner, who is alleged to have committed several acts of sexual harassment and misconduct, is planning a return to Hollywood in the form of a Milli Vanilli biopic. That was the band forced out of the music industry, following revelations that they didn’t sing their own music.
The Time’s Up movement has responded to the news with a statement that reads “TIME’S UP was born out of the national reckoning on workplace sexual harassment. Our movement is a product of countless courageous acts by many survivors, including those who spoke out about what they endured at the hands of Brett Ratner”.
Time’s Up CEO Tina Tchen released the statement and goes on to allege that “not only did Ratner never acknowledge or apologise for the harm he caused, but he also filed lawsuits in an attempt to silence the voices of survivors who came forward — a tactic right out of the predator’s playbook. You don’t get to go away for a couple years and then resurface and act like nothing happened. We have not — and will not — forget. And Millennium Media shouldn’t either. There should be no comeback. #wewontforgetbrett.”
Ratner, who previously directed large-scale mainstream films such as X-Men: The Last Stand and the Rush Hour films, faced very serious allegations of misconduct and abuse in 2017 from among others, actors Natasha Henstridge and Olivia Munn. He has never publicly commented on the allegations. Millennium Films is backing his new project, but whether pressure mounts on the company to make Ratner’s position untenable remains to be seen.
