The world of The Last Airbender is about to scale up with the announcement of three distinct animated movies all in production.
Nickelodeon Animation alongside Paramount Animation have announced that there are not one, not two, but three animated features in development that will fill out the world of The Last Airbender. The studios dropped the news at the Annecy International Film Festival, although they chose not to reveal any story details as of yet.
We do know that Lauren Montgomery will be directing the first Airbender film to arrive. Montgomery was a key part of both Avatar: The Last Airbender, the original animated series, whilst she also was part of the spinoff show, The Legend of Korra. It has also been confirmed that several other members of the original creative team will be joining her.
This announcement marks the progression of Paramount and Nickelodeonās Avatar Studios, an imprint that was launched back in February of last year to commission and produce projects that would add to the enduringly-popular world of The Last Airbender. Upon the launch of the banner, the plan was to release projects both in cinemas and on Paramount and Nickelodeon platforms. As it stands so far, they seem to be well on the way to realising those ambitions. Weāll bring you more news on these projects as we hear it.
