Netflix’s The Witcher has been renewed for a fifth season, but it will be the seriesā last. More on that below.
We have good news and bad news. The good news is that Netflix has just renewed The Witcher for another season. The bad news is that the fifth season will be the fantasy series’ last.
The streaming service also announced that season four is now in production and that season five will be shot back-to-back with it.
Henry Cavill starred in The Witcher as Geralt Of Rivia for three seasons, but Cavill recently left the role. No official reason was ever given, but Cavill is a huge fan of the videogame franchise, itself based on The Witcher books, so creative differences could have been the reason. Black Adam’s post-credit scene with Cavill back as Superman also sparked rumours that Cavill left so he could return to DC as the Man of Steel again.
“It is with huge pride that we begin shooting our penultimate Season of The Witcher with a stellar cast,ā said series creator Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, āincluding some exciting new additions, led by Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia. We’re thrilled to be able to bring Andrzej Sapkowski’s books to an epic and satisfying conclusion. It wouldn’t be our show if we didn’t push our family of characters to their absolute limit — stay tuned to see how the story ends,”
Here’s a brief synopsis for season four:
After the shocking, Continent-altering events that close out season three, the new season follows Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri who are faced with traversing the war-ravaged Continent and its many demons apart from each other. If they can embrace and lead the groups of misfits they find themselves in, they have a chance of surviving the baptism of fire — and finding one another again.
No release date for The Witcher season four or five, but we’ll make sure to keep you updated on those.
