The Wicked movie will be split into two parts

The long-awaited film of the musical Wicked is happening, but it’s going to be split up into two different movies, it’s been revealed. It’s been a project long, long talked about, but Universal Pictures is finally pressing ahead with a big screen take on the hit musical Wicked. With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman, Wicked takes as its inspiration the 1995 novel Wicked: The Life And Times Of The Wicked Witch Of The West, and it’s billed as the untold story of the witches of The Wizard Of Oz. The musical has won awards and earned huge audiences all over the world. It also runs for two hours and 45 minutes. Universal nonetheless seems to smell a bit of a hit here, and has made the decision to split the musical across two films. The news was broken by the film’s director, Jon M Chu, with the first movie landing on December 25^th 2024, and the second on December 25^th 2025. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo lead the ensemble for the film, with Schwartz and Holzman on screenplay duties. More news on the movie as we hear it.
