Gareth Evans’ first project of a multi-film deal with Netflix will be Havoc, an action thriller starring Tom Hardy.
Netflix has acquired the services of Gareth Evans in an extended deal that will see him make several films for the streaming platform.
Evans is of course, best known for 2011’s
The Raid and its sequel, films which have had a real impact on the style of action cinema, the legacy of which continues to be felt today. Evans’ first project for Netflix will be
Havoc, an action thriller starring Tom Hardy. Evans will write the project as well as directing.
The synopsis reads:
The story is set after a drug deal gone wrong, when a bruised detective must fight his way through a criminal underworld to rescue a politician’s estranged son, while unraveling a deep web of corruption and conspiracy that ensnares his entire city.
Evans has already worked with Netflix on his most recent film, 2018’s
The Apostle. The streaming platform, clearly impressed with his output and style, have elected to make the creative partnership into something long-term.
Evans has also co-created the TV series
Gangs Of London for Sky. Hardy’s most recent role was as Al Capone in last year’s
Capone whilst we’ll be seeing him next reprising his role as Eddie Brock/Venom in the sequel to 2018’s comic book actioner,
Venom, where he’ll be featuring opposite Woody Harrelson in the sequel
Venom: Let There Be Carnage.
With the release of
The Apostle, Evans proved that he’s even more than an amazing action director so hopefully this deal with Netflix will allow him to fully explore a breadth of genres and storytelling opportunities We’ll bring you more news on
