Showrunner Lauren LeFranc has been chatting about The Penguin, and it seems like it’ll be a must-watch if you want to know what’s going on in The Batman 2.
We’re only a couple of months away from The Penguin, HBO’s spin-off series from The Batman, which will focus on Colin Farrell’s titular villain. Meanwhile, Matt Reeves is busy working on The Batman 2 which was recently delayed by a whole year and is now eyeing a 2026 release.
Showrunner Lauren LeFranc gave Entertainment Weekly an update on what to expect from The Penguin, which will hit Sky in September in the UK. LeFranc told EW that the series will take place in between Reeves’ two Batman films.
“We are the bridge between the two films,” LeFranc told the outlet. “We’re going almost directly into the second film Matt has planned.”
This seems to imply that you might need to tune into The Penguin to have a better understanding of The Batman 2, at least if Farrell’s character is a part of the sequel. DC seems to be following in Marvel’s footsteps in this regard: dince Marvel debuted its first official MCU series ā that would be WandaVision ā it’s become imperative to keep up with the studioās output to have even the slightest clue of what’s going on in each film.
In the same interview, producer Dylan Clark also revealed that more Gotham related TV shows were in the cards.
“There’s another television exploration we’re going to do,” Clark said. “We’re looking at this entire world as it relates to who Batman is ā the antagonists around them, all the crime that has to be navigated in the city ā and trying to figure out where are the areas that are best to explore.”
No word on who the new series, or perhaps multiple of them, will focus on, but we’ll make sure to bring you more news on it as soon as we hear it.
