Antoine Fuqua is also said to be back in the director’s chair for The Equalizer 3, as Denzel Washington gets back into training.
Fresh from playing a soldier named Macbeth, who just happens to be very talented at dishing out violence, Denzel Washington will next be playing another Mac, this time a former marine who, well, just happens to be very talented at dishing out violence. With Washington taking the lead role in
The Tragedy Of Macbeth, set to release on Apple TV+ tomorrow, he’s announced that he’ll next be reprising the role of Robert McCall, a former marine and DIA operative who uses his unique and fearsome skillset to operate as an undercover vigilante.
The Equalizer arrived in 2014, starring Washington and directed by Antoine Fuqua, with whom the actor previously worked with in
Training Day. Its sequel, which released in 2018 was a good film too, and now the duo are combining to make a trilogy entrant for the series.
Whilst Washington didn’t reveal any story details, or much at all in fact beyond the fact that the film is happening, he did state that he’s begun the intensive training for the role, stating “they have written the third
Equalizer, so I’m scheduled to do that. So I gotta get in shape and start beating people up again. I get to beat people up again.
The Tragedy Of Macbeth and then going and beating some people up. Can’t get any better, right?”
It’s good to hear that Washington is enjoying this stage of his career, and despite the surface comparison we jokingly made above, there must be something really gratifying about getting to tackle something as lofty as Shakespeare before cleaning one’s palette with a gritty genre flick.
Whilst Fuqua’s involvement isn’t yet confirmed, it’s certainly likely, although it’s as yet unclear as to whether Richard Wenk, who penned the first two movies, has scripted the third. As we hear more though, you can be sure we’ll let you know.
