The Duke, starring Jim Broadbent and Helen Mirren, is finally heading to UK cinemas after its initial September 2021 release was scrapped late in the day.
Pulled from the scheduled fairly late in the day back at the start of autumn, the very funny drama The Duke is finally back on the UK release list. The film, which stars Helen Mirren and Jim Broadbent, is based on a true story, that of 60-year old Kempton Bunton. Back in 1961, he stole a portrait of the Duke Of Wellington from the National Gallery, leading to a nationwide search for the missing picture.
Penned by Richard Bean and Clive Coleman, the film had picked up deserved acclaim following its premiere in 2020. Its UK release – now earmarked for 25th February 2022 – is thus good news. What makes it bittersweet is that we lost the director of the film, the late Roger Michell, both recently and unexpectedly.
The Duke, then, is Michell’s final film. Do keep an eye out for it next February. Here’s the trailer…
