Aline Brosh McKenna is said to be returning to write The Devil Wears Prada 2: more on the story right here.
While recently promoting her latest film, The Idea of You, Anne Hathaway poured doubt on the possibility of a sequel to 2006ās The Devil Wears Prada ever happening. The actor told E! she was unsure about the possibility of a sequel, saying, “I don’t think a continuation of that story is probably ever gonna happen.”
Either Hathaway was having a little fun with some purposeful misdirection or perhaps she was simply unaware, but a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada does seem to be in some kind of early development.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the original filmās writer, Aline Brosh McKenna, āis penning a would-be follow-up to the hit film that is being developed and produced by Wendy Finerman, who was behind the original.ā

Disney ā which now has the rights to the Fox 2000 film ā hasnāt commented and the outlet is reporting that no deals are in place for any of Hathaway, Emily Blunt or Meryl Streep, who earned an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Miranda Priestly, the ice-cold fashion magazine editor who is a wee bit demanding of her employees.
Streep famously quit method acting after making the film because the experience of being cold and aloof all of the time made the production a miserable experience for her.
Speaking about the experience years later, Streep had this to say: “It was horrible! I was [miserable] in my trailer. I could hear them all rocking and laughing. I was so depressed! I said, ‘well, it’s the price you pay for being boss!’ That’s the last time I ever attempted a method thing!”
Still, the approach worked and Streep created a truly memorable antagonist. The film still holds up almost two decades later, and reuniting Streep, Hathaway and Blunt would be a huge win given the star power they each possess.
Puck was first to report news of a potential sequel and actually outlined a potential storyline too. Whether this is the projectās direction remains to be seen, but the outlet stated that in the sequel, āPriestly is still the head of Runway but the magazine has endured the financial headwinds of contemporary publishing and is in a diminished state. Blunt’s one-time assistant would now be an executive at a luxury brand conglomerate that advertises with Runway.ā
Thereās no mention of Hathawayās Andy in that synopsis, so perhaps a sequel would excise that character completely. Still, although itās very early days, something is very much in the works and when we do hear more, you can be sure weāll let you know.
