Road House star Jake Gyllenhaal has reportedly joined Maggie Gyllenhaal’s remake of The Bride Of Frankenstein.

Here’s a fun addition to a production that we’re keenly following: Jake Gyllenhaal has reportedly found his way to London where he’s joined the cast of The Bride!, the upcoming reimagining of The Bride Of Frankenstein. The film is being directed by his sister, Maggie Gyllenhaal and already boasts an exciting ensemble cast.

Along with Jake Gyllenhaal, the cast now comprises the considerable talents of Christian Bale, Jessie Buckley, Annette Bening, Penelope Cruz, and Peter Sarsgaard. Honestly, for all of its many flashy casting announcements, we don’t think that even Ria Johnson’s latest Knives Out film, Wake Up Dead Man, can compete with that.

The film is said to be a a reimagining of James Whale’s 1935 classic The Bride Of Frankenstein and will see ā€˜a lonely Frankenstein monster (Bale) travels to 1930s Chicago to seek the aide of a Dr. Euphronius in creating a companion for himself. The two reinvigorate a murdered young woman and the Bride (Jessie Buckley) is born. She is beyond what either of them intended, igniting a combustible romance, the attention of the police and a wild and radical social movement.’

As for who Jake Gyllenhall will play, The Hollywood Reporter, which broke the story, doesn’t know. We’re hoping it’s something where he gets to do one of his more wild-eyed and weird performances. This year’s Road House was certainly something to behold and love it or hate it (and we’ve met plenty of people firmly in both camps), Gyllenhaal was always fun to watch.

We’ve high hopes for this Warner Bros project. An $80m budget that leaves room for creative swings, a talented director early in her career and an ensemble cast full of talent. Surely it’ll never work, will it?

Warner Bros is set to release the film theatrically and happily, with an IMAX launch too. A release date of October 3rd 2025 has been set. Shooting began in March in London and continues, now with two Gyllenhaals on set. We’ll bring you more on The Bride! as we hear it.
