Ahead of season 4’s launch, showrunner Eric Kripke has announced that The Boys will conclude with season 5. More on the news below.
We’re only a day away from The Boys season 4 launching on Prime Video with three episodes (look out for our review tomorrow!). It looks like it’s going to be another mental, cracking season, but it’s now being shadowed by some unfortunate news.
Showrunner Eric Kripke took to X (formerly known as Twitter) yesterday (11th June) to share the news that season 5, which was announced last month, would be the superhero series’ last one.
In his post, which also included a mostly blacked out final page of season 4 script, Kripke said ending the show with season 5 was always his plan, he was simply waiting for the “final OK from Vought.”
In an interview with Variety, Kripke expanded on the announcement and his mindset. When asked when he knew The Boys would end with season 5, Kripke said he’s known for a while.
“I would say near the beginning of writing Season 3, so years — years and years. And it took a minute for Amazon to agree, it took another minute to get them to clear it in all the channels so that we could finally announce it,” Kripke explained.
Kripke also clarified that season 5, which will also consist of eight episodes like season 4, would start filming in mid-November and the shoot would continue well into mid-2025, meaning we’ll have a bit of a wait for season 5.
Gen V, The Boys spin-off focusing on younger superheroes, is still set to continue and Kripke even said there’s a few other spin-offs planned. We already know there’s a Mexico-set one in the works, but it seems there are more coming our way.
“There’s more than The Boys Mexico spinoff, but we’re not ready to announce anything yet,” the showrunner said cryptically.
