Ahead of the launch of season 4, Prime Video has renewed Eric Kripke’s violent superhero series The Boys for season 5.
Prime Video is holding their inaugural Prime Video Upfronts presentation in New York today, which is why there’s an absolute barrage of news, including the first trailer for Rings Of Power season 2.
One of the buzziest announcements is the renewal of The Boys for season 5. We haven’t even seen season 4 yet – that’s debuting on Prime Video in June – but clearly, there’s a lot of confidence that the new season will have a very warm reception.
“’The Boys’ is an unabashed and bold series that continues captivating our customers all over the world by piercing the cultural fabric season after season,” Amazon MGM Studios head of television Vernon Sanders said as per Variety’s reporting. “We are proud of this series that has grown into a global franchise, and we are thrilled that Eric Kripke and the creative team have more engaging stories to tell for all the loyal fans.”
Season 4, which will drop the first three episodes on 13th June, will explore the bloody aftermath of the shocking season 3 finale. We recently got our very first trailer for the upcoming season.
The Boys is one of Prime Video’s most popular shows. The franchise has expanded to an animated show, titled The Boys Presents: Diabolical and another live-action series, Gen V. A Mexico-set spin-off is also in the works.
“’The Boys’ could be the best job I’ll ever have. What other show allows me to write about politics, capitalism, family, and exploding genitalia, though not in that order. The cast and crew are deeply grateful to Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios for the opportunity to tell this story for another season. My only problem is that since this year promises to be free of any conflict or misinformation, we’re not sure what to write about,” said showrunner Eric Kripke.
He is of course joking about 2024 being another potentially controversial election year in the US, something that made Alex Garland’s Civil War very potent and timely as well.
With season 4 of The Boys almost upon us, there’s no word on when we might see season 5. But Prime Video has released previous seasons roughly in two-year intervals, we’d guess 2026 is the earliest we’ll see season 5, but we’ll make sure to keep you posted on that.
