Production has finally completed on Matt Reeves’ upcoming take on the Dark Knight, The Batman.
DC Film’s The Batman is a project that has seemed to take forever to get off the ground. Since the advent of the DCEU the project has been mooted often, discussed often, but even with director Matt Reeves attached, seemed to regularly find itself back to square one.
Then, the DCEU Batman, Ben Affleck, spent a couple of years toying with the project before ultimately passing and thus, Robert Pattison was installed as Batman and elements that Reeves wanted to keep were reshaped into the promising-looking dark drama that the resultant film looks like being.
News then arrives – finally! – that production has finally wrapped. For eight years of the DCEU to have elapsed without us seeing a solo Batman film being released seems unthinkable, but it will be over nine by the time the film releases in March 2022. Frankly, we’re just glad it exists, with the one trailer we’ve seen so far and the casting of Pattinson in the title role along with Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as The Riddler and Colin Farrell as The Penguin, all looking very promising indeed.
Production itself hasn’t been smooth with the first national shutdown causing filming to be paused in March of 2020, whilst cameras had barely begun rolling again in September when the production shut down again due to positive Covid cases.
