Talking about the planned sequel to his latest film The Batman, director Matt Reeves said he wants the villain to be Mr Freeze.
When it comes to making a Batman film, thereās certainly no shortage of villains to choose from.
The Batman director Matt Reeves has expressed a particular interest in a villain thatās already appeared on-screen,
Collider reports. Mr Freeze was previously portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the Joel Schumacher-directed
Batman & Robin. His version is defined by his bad puns, but Reeves thinks thereās a way to do a much more grounded version of the character that would be a good fit for Robert Pattinsonās Batman.
āIn my view, I just feel drawn to finding the grounded version of everything. So to me it would be a challenge in an interesting way to try and figure out how that could happen, even the idea of something like Mr. Freeze, thatās such a great story, right? I think thereās actually a grounded version of that story, which could be really powerful and could be really great.ā
Reeves has already toned down a more flamboyant villain in his upcoming film. Schumacherās
Batman Forever gave The Riddler a rather crazy colour pallet and cast Jim Carrey in the role. In comparison, Paul Danoās Riddler looks like a real-life serial killer. Itās not too much of a stretch, then, to imagine him creating a more ārealisticā version of Mr Freeze.
The Batman has already drummed up enough excitement to have two sequels in the planning stages. There are also spin-off series in the works at HBO Max. One is a procedural set at Gotham Police Department (sounds familiar for any fellow
Gotham fans out there), and the other is a crime story focused on Colin Farrellās Penguin. Farrellās character is one of many making their debut in the upcoming film. It also stars Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Robert Pattinson as Batman, Paul Dano as The Riddler, and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon. Last but not least, Andy Serkis takes the role of Alfred.
The Batman releases in UK cinemas on 4th March.
