Seminal festive film A Christmas Story is getting a legacy sequel, and hereās the trailer for the new movie.
There’s nothing film studios like more than a Christmas film, specifically a Christmas film thatās beloved enough to crank out a legacy sequel. From last year’s
Home Sweet Home Alone to the ill-advised, and mostly forgotten.
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie’s Island Adventure, there are plenty out there to choose from.
This brings us to
A Christmas Story Christmas, sequel to seminal holiday classic
A Christmas Story. Technically, this is the third sequel.
My Summer Story, released in 1994, was meant to serve as an official sequel, with original director Bob Clark at the helm. However, all of the characters were recast.
A Christmas Story 2 was released in 2012, featuring none of the original cast or creative team, the only point of interest being that it featured
Home Alone alumnus Daniel Stern.
A Christmas Story Christmas, however, is an official follow-up. The original followed the bespectacled, blue eyed boy Ralphie and his family in a series of vignettes interspersed with the main story. It is often ranked amongst the best Christmas films ever made.
The majority of the original cast are back for the sequel, including Peter Billingsley as Ralphie, alongside Ian Petrella as Randy Parker, Erinn Hayes as Sandy Parker, Zack Ward as Officer Scut Farkus, Scott Schwartz as Flick, R.D. Robb as Schwartz, Julianna Layne as Julie and River Drosche as Mark.
There’s Christmas connections behind the camera too, as
The Christmas Chronicles director Clay Kaytis is helming the film from a screenplay by regular Clint Eastwood collaborator Nick Schenk.
A Christmas Story Christmas will be released on HBO max in the US on the 17
th November. There’s currently no UK release date, but we’ll keep you updated as we hear more. Watch the teaser trailer belowā¦
