If the trailer wasnāt grim enough for you, then The Batmanās unveiled synopsis hints that our brief preview may only be the beginning of the darkness.
Every generation has their Batman, and every generation probably believes that heās the darkest of Dark Knights. Whether fans of the 1966 incarnation thought Adam Westās Caped Crusader was an unhinged madman is up for debate, but Michael Keatonās 1989 take on the Dark Knight certainly presented a darker Batman, and a Gotham that weād ever seen before on screen. With the exception of maybe Clooney, Kilmerās psychologically-haunted hero, then Nolan and Snyderās Batmen each tool the character into respectively darker territories. Nolanās Batman pushed the schizophrenic aspect of the character further than ever before whilst Snyder presented Batman as a jaded murderer.
At some point, a
Batman director is going to have to take the character into less dark waters, but it doesnāt seem it will be Matt Reeves, director of
The Batman, the latest take on the character. With the trailer already presenting a grim version of the character, seemingly using violence as a means to deal with trauma, the just-released synopsis for the film seems to support this.
Just sprinkling the adjectives ādisturbingā, ādesperateā, ādisillusionedā and ārageā into the synopsis gives us the impression that this could well be the darkest Dark Knight yet. And frankly, weāre on board with that. Hereās the synopsis below. The film is set to release in March of the next year. Hereās the synopsis:
The Batman is an edgy, action-packed thriller that depicts Batman in his early years, struggling to balance rage with righteousness as he investigates a disturbing mystery that has terrorised Gotham. Robert Pattinson delivers a raw, intense portrayal of Batman as a disillusioned, desperate vigilante awakened by the realisation that the anger consuming him makes him no better than the ruthless serial killer heās hunting.
The film arrives next March.
