The secret origin of the Italian Stallion could be coming to a screen near you, with a new Rocky movie planned.
Rocky Balboa is one of the most enduring movie characters of any generation, having secured legendary status not only through the series of films that spanned the 1970s through to the naughties, but also through Stallone’s wonderful turns as an ageing version of the character in the more recent Creed spin-offs. There is though one area of the Italian Stallion’s life that remains unexplored: his youth, the defining moments that shaped a young man into the gutsy and endearingly-earnest prize-fighter we meet at the start of 1976’s Rocky.
If Sylvester Stallone has his way however, that part of Rocky Balboa’s life will be explored soon however, as the actor, director and producer has revealed that he is working on a treatment for a Rocky prequel series, most likely aimed at one of the main streaming services.
Stallone took to social media to state: “I started out this morning by writing a treatment for a Rocky prequel For streaming. Ideally 10 episodes for a few seasons to really get to the heart of the Characters in there [sic] younger years.”
Stallone also went on to give a little background on the treatment, saying “Imagine a time machine that will simply transport us back to the origins of Rocky, a cinematic world brimming with characters that have been beloved by people around the world for nearly five decades!…[set in] the most transformative generation in Modern history: The Sixties… the moon landing, the Civil Rights Movement, the Cold War, the Vietnam disaster and the feminist movement… Needless to say, The 60s was a dynamic time.”
Frankly, we can’t see how this wouldn’t get picked up by a streaming platform and we doubt there’ll be a lack of suitors for Stallone’s project. Plus, if it means we then get that spinoff show titled The Secret Diary Of Ivan Drago, aged 13 and Three Quarters that we’ve always hoped for, then even better. More news on this one as we hear it.
