With his next project, Steven Soderbergh will be continuing his deal to release his films through HBO Max – in the US, at least.
Steven Soderbergh’s next film has been announced and from the scant details we have already, it sounds like an intriguing prospect. The filmmaker will be making KIMI for New Line, to be distributed on HBO Max, in the US at least, although by the time the film releases, the streaming service may yet be available elsewhere.
Zoe Kravitz, who will be playing Catwoman in next year’s The Batman, will star, in what sounds like a Hitchcock-style thriller, described thus: ‘The film will centre on an agoraphobic tech worker, played by Kravitz, who discovers recorded evidence of a violent crime during an ordinary data stream review and tries reporting it up the chain of command at her company. Met with resistance and bureaucracy, she realises that in order to get involved, she will have to do the thing she fears the most — leave her apartment.’
David Koepp, who is also working on the upcoming Indiana Jones sequel, has scripted the film, which as of yet, has no planned release date.
Soderbergh’s deal with HBO Max was signed recently and lasts for three years. KIMI will mark the third film of Soderbergh’s for HBO Max. No Sudden Move, his upcoming crime drama is yet to release on the platform whilst the Meryl Streep-starring Let Them All Talk launched in December but is still awaiting a UK release.
