A ‘film noir social thriller’ featuring bloodsuckers, set in the 1950s is on the cards next for Oscar-winner Peter Ramsey.
Despite the runaway success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, there’s still a very good argument to be made that 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is the best representation we’ve seen on screen of the beloved webhead. One of the people chiefly responsible for bringing that film to life was Peter Ramsey, whose co-directorial efforts help snag the movie the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. Now, we have details on Ramsey’s next project and it looks very exciting indeed.
A live action project is next on the cards for the director, in the form of Blood Count, ‘a film noir social thriller set in 1950s L.A. with supernatural elements.’
The film is apparently ‘loosely inspired by the life of Ramsey’s father, a jazz musician’ according to The Hollywood Reporter. Paramount has acquired the project, based on a spec script written by Ramsey, who will direct.
Ramsey also has another live action project set up at Paramount in the form of Love In Vain, ‘a biopic focusing on Blues pioneer, Robert Johnson’.
It’s unclear as yet which project he’ll be helming first, but it looks like being a busy couple of years for the filmmaker. Naturally, with a slate that full, Ramsey has stepped away from directing the Spider-Verse sequel, Across the Spider-Verse. The first part is due to hit cinemas later this year. Ramsay remains as an executive producer on that project. We’ll bring you more on Blood Count as we hear it.
