Sony reserves another October release date for a new, unnamed Marvel venture.
Sony is continuing to develop its line of Spider-Man spin-off movies, with Venom 2 currently filming under the watchful eye of director Andy Serkis. Tom Hardy is reprising the lead role.
It’s also, in recent times, been juggling potential films featuring Black Cat, Silver Sable, Kraven The Hunter and more. Morbius, meanwhile, is in post-production, and will be released in July.
Now we learn that the studio has earmarked an October 8th 2021 release date for a thus-far unnamed Marvel/Spider-Man-spin-off movie. It also has a reserved date this year, on October 2nd. Venom 2 will clearly be taking one of those, and it’ll be interesting to see if Sony pushes the film to meet a release this year. It’s feasible, but the movie is still filming.
The other option would be to push Venom 2 to next year, and vacate the date that’s been earmarked for this, but that sounds like a longer shot.
Bottom line, if you can’t tell, is that we don’t know what film is going to land where, and that Sony may just have picked the date for one of those aforementioned other Spider-Man spin-off projects in the works. Bottom line: Sony seems to be slicing out a regular October spot for its Marvel films.
More as we hear it.
