A new deal inked by Sony sees its films heading to Disney+ as well as the Netflix service – more details on it right here.
As the only major studio without its own streaming service, all eyes have been on Sony to see just how it’s going to navigate the changing world of modern movies. Would it look to back its own service, or work alongside the others that already exist?
The answer appears to be the latter. Sony
has now inked, in the US, a deal with Disney that will see films from the former streaming on Disney+ service. This sits alongside existing deals that Sony has with Netflix. The way we read it, Sony films will head to Netflix first, and then Disney+ later. The deals are said to be worth in the region of $3bn to Sony. That’s not a bad chunk of change.
The deals cover Sony theatrical releases from 2022 to 2026, and we assume that it’ll roll out across the world. More as we hear it…
