The dinosaur shoot-em up 65 ā starring Adam Driver ā reportedly has two versions testing only weeks out from release.
Sony is running close to the line with the upcoming release of 65, the action movie featuring Adam Driverās hair, a pew pew gun and a bunch of dinosaurs. Never mind the fun trailer, you could sell us the film on those three details alone, but Sony has been tinkering with the film for a while now, clearly looking for the best way to balance those three elements (is there a best way? Weād take any combination of the three). Clearly, Sony is hoping to emulate the success of its other straight-up actioners like last summerās Bullet Train, combining a movie star with some silly but fun thrills and spills to create a good box office earner for the studio.
However, 65's path to the screen hasnāt been entirely straightforward and now weāre at the point where according to World of Reel, Sony still doesnāt have a locked-down version of the film with only a couple of weeks left before it arrives in cinemas. After being shot in 2020, the film was test screened back in 2021 but somehow, the studio didnāt arrive at a decision and are still testing two versions of the film here in late February of 2023.
Just to be clear, the film arrives in cinemas on March 10th. Yikes.
Weāre hoping that the best version of this makes it into cinemas, though weāre more than a bit curious to know what the differences are between the two versions. The film certainly has some pedigree behind it with the writers of A Quiet Place, Scott Beck and Bryan Woods directing and having penned the project whilst Sam Raimi is producing and Danny Elfman has composed the score.
Hereās the trailer below. The film is said to have cost around $90m to shoot and weāre wondering if thereās an edgier cut that Sony are tempted by. This will make a fascinating film story to unpack when details eventually emerge, but in the meantime you can look forward to judging the film for yourself when it releases on March 10th.
