With the new Venom film a huge box office smash, Sony is planning a lot more films in its Spider-Man cinematic universe.
With the now-playing
Venom: Let There Be Carnage eating up monstrous amounts of cash at the box office, Sony is continuing down the cinematic universe path it tried to set up all that time ago with
The Amazing Spider-Man 2. That film, you might recall, was packed with setup for other movies, but the studio lost confidence in its Spider-verse, and only regained it when the first
Venom turned into a bigger than expected hit.
Now it has a pair of already-announced projects on the go, with
Morbius arriving in cinemas next year, and
Kraven The Hunter following in January of 2023. Yet the studio
has now staked out two more dates for films in what it’s calling Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (the SSU, to its mates).
As is the norm, it’s bagsied the dates first rather than telling us what’s arriving. As such, on June 23
rd and October 6
th in 2023 a pair of further films will be arriving. There’s a sporting chance that one of those will be
Venom 3, which hasn’t been confirmed but surely it’s just a matter of time.
As we hear more, we’ll let you know. Expect those release dates to be reflected in the UK as well.
