The latin wrestler El Muerto, known for tussling with Spider-Man will be played by rapper Bad Bunny it has been revealed.
Sony has announced another film to add to its growing number of Spider-Man spin-off projects. With a third
Venom movie
being planned,
Morbius having just hit cinemas, a Kraven the Hunter film in production and a Madame Web film in development, the studio is pushing hard to leverage the potential of its own mini
Spider-Man shared universe.
The character of El Muerto is, according to
Deadline, āa super powered wrestler who originally fought Spider-Man in a charity wrestling match in which he nearly unmasked the webslinger before being stung by Spider-Man with a paralysing poison. After his oppressor El Dorado came to claim his life, he was saved by Spider-Man, after which the two team up to defeat Dorado.ā
Whilst the El Muerto character might not seem like the obvious direction for Sony to move into given the lack of awareness around the character, it is being suggested that Sony are very keen to work with Bad Bunny who is expected to be very much in demand following the release of
Bullet Train, the starās first major studio film. The El Muerto character was reportedly Bad Bunnyās first choice and Sony has backed his decision. Beyond
Bullet Train, which is set to release in July, the actor has also appeared in
Narcos: Mexico and has the upcoming
Cassandro with Gael García Bernal also on the way.
A release date for
El Muerto has been scheduled as January 12, 2024. Weāll bring you more updates on this one as we hear them.
