Skydance and Apple formalise their growing relationship, with several movie projects already in development.
David Ellison’s production company and financing outfit Skydance Media has signed a multi-year deal to make live-action films in partnership with Apple, for its Apple TV+ streaming platform.
Skydance already has an existing partnership with Paramount which looks set to be retained, focusing on big-budget action blockbusters like
Mission: Impossible, Transformers, Star Trek and
Top Gun: Maverick. This is set to continue with
Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts currently in production, whilst the next two
Mission: Impossible instalments are on their way, but coming later than originally expected
it has been revealed today.
Top Gun: Maverick, which has also been delayed, is set to arrive in May.
Skydance’s deal with Apple will also be for live-action films, but with a focus on more dramatic material, if their current shared slate is anything to go by.
The Greatest Beer Run Ever, starring Zac Efron and Russell Crowe, was announced a few months ago, which will see director Peter Farrelly make his return to drama following the Oscar-winning success of
Green Book. Also, the Dexter Fletcher-helmed
Ghosted starring Chris Evans and Ana de Armas is set to enter production soon.
Several of Skydance’s other films , such as
Without Remorse, The Tomorrow War and
The Old Guard have all come to streaming, (although that may not have always been the original intention) and with the news of this deal, that trend looks set to continue. Apple continues to bolster its production arm as it seeks to grab a greater share of the streaming market. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
