Wolfblood and Vampire Academy star Louisa Connolly-Burnham is directing and starring in a new short film ā and sheās nabbed How To Have Sex star Mia McKenna-Bruce to star alongside her.
Here at Film Stories, we love a good short film. Weāre less keen on ultra-fundamentalist, polygamous society-cults, as a rule (apologies to all lovely ultra-fundamentalist, polygamous society-cults out there). Short films about ultra-fundamentalist polygamous society-cults, though? Weāre big fans.
Luckily for us, then, Christmas has come a little bit early, with the news that How To Have Sex star Mia McKenna-Bruce and Downton Abbey's Michael Fox are set to star in a new short from Louisa Connolly-Burnham. Check out the synopsis below:
āSister Wives is a deeply compelling love story that tells the tale of two young women living in a strict, fundamentalist, polygamous society. Kaidence and Galilee find themselves bound to one another, under the same roof, in the same marriage, as they develop scary, new, exciting feelings for each other. In a harsh, regressive, watchful community where being queer is considered a cardinal sin, they begin having thoughts of leaving the only life they have ever known behind.
āSister Wives will offer a vital perspective to the canon of coming-out films; at its core, it is a story of female friendship, of allyship, a story of exploration, both physical and psychological, as together they find the courage to dream in tandem, of a world beyond the walls.ā
Chatting about her film, Connolly-Burnham said: āAfter a tough year for our industry Iām thrilled to finally bring this special story to screen with the team I dreamed of.ā
The script is a semi-finalist at the Flickers: Rhode Island International Film Festival, and also won the highly-acclaimed Sunday Shorts Script Competition.
McKenna-Bruce also seems pretty pleased to get involved. She said: “I’m overjoyed to be joining this film, Louisa’s writing is simply beautiful and I fell in love with the characters and their story the minute I read her script.ā
Consider our fundamentalist cult itch thoroughly scratched.
