Up-and-coming screenwriters looking for a new way to break in to a famously gatekeeper-controlled industry might want to point their browser at Script Hub. It’s a new way to connect screenwriters with agents and producers, without relying on industry contacts – and it’s just launched in the UK.
Based in the UK, it’s designed as a place for up-and-coming screenwriters to get discovered, and for producers and agents to find projects and people they couldn’t find elsewhere.
Screenwriters can set up a profile and host their first script free (additional scripts cost £1.95 to host). Producers and agents – subject to a credentials check – pay £49.95 to gain a year’s access to Script Hub’s hosted scripts, where they can browse by medium (short, television, or feature) and genre (comedy, horror, drama, etc.) and, if they read something they like, contact the relevant writers.
What’s refreshing about Script Hub is not only its simplicity, but – unlike similar offerings here and in the US – it isn’t trying to constantly sell you costly coverage, pay-to-enter competitions, or industry events. With none of us able to physically network at the moment, Script Hub might just be a good way for your script to break out during lockdown.
