Scott Derrickson will be re-teaming with Blumhouse to helm the adaptation of Joe Hill’s chilling story Black Phone.

Sinister, is teaming with Blumhouse and Universal for
Black Phone. It’s an adaptation of the Joe Hill novella, reports
Deadline.
Black Phone is a story about a kidnapped child, whose only means of communication whilst trapped in a cellar is via a long-disconnected, antique telephone.
The
Sinister franchise, which Derrickson has written and produced – despite not directing the sequel – has enduring popularity.
Black Phone will mark Derrickson’s resumption of his partnership with Blumhouse, with whom he made the
Sinister films.
It also looks like Joe Hill has leaped in front of his father in the line to have a book adapted by Derrickson too. The director was talking a few years ago about adapting Stephen King’s short story
The Breathing Method, for the big screen, but it seems that instead it’s King’s son, Joe Hill, who will be seeing Derrickson adapt his work first.
Interestingly, Hill himself was on Mick Garris’ podcast last week where he revealed that he might be tempted to direct himself… but only if it was a remake of his father’s first and last attempt at helming a movie, 1986’s
Maximum Overdrive. Whether any studio is willing to take a punt on that one remains to be seen.
