The upcoming The Flash movie might have a couple of added surprises in store – potentially sizeable spoilers in this story (if they prove to be true).
According to stories circulating at the moment, it is being rumoured that the DC Extended Universe of superhero movies is going to be honouring its past with cameos from Christopher Reeve, Adam West and Lynda Carter in the upcoming The Flash movie. The film, which has already confirmed appearances from two different versions of Batman, may also feature quick appearances from the 1960s Caped Crusader, Adam West, alongside Reeves’ Superman and Carter’s Wonder Woman.
We’ve seen posthumous appearances from actors draw criticism before, whether it be Peter Cushing’s ‘appearance’ in Rogue One or the news from a couple of years ago that James Dean would be ‘returning’ in a movie about dogs in the Vietnam war. However, the source here suggests that the filmmakers haven’t gone in this direction but will instead be using archival footage, which sounds entirely sensible to us.
The film isn’t set to release until next year and with its title star, Ezra Miller repeatedly hitting the headlines for all of the wrong reasons at the moment, the appearance of deceased actors (and Carter) is likely the least of the project’s concerns now for Warner Bros. Still, as an idea at lest, honouring the actors who laid the foundations for some of today’s most beloved films feels like a good sentiment, if nothing else. Whether it happens, we’ll have to wait until summer of next year to find out.
