Robert Eggers’ long in gestation remake of Nosferatu finally seems to be moving forward, and cast members are now attached.
The remake of
Nosferatu has been on the cards for some time now, but in recent months had appeared to have hit the buffers. There was a
report of Anya Taylor-Joy starring in the project at one stage, before delays behind to hit.
Now? Those delays look like they’re over. It will be Eggers’ next project after this year’s success with
The Northman.
F W. Murnau’s classic horror tells the tale of Count Orlok, as he preys on the wife of the estate agent sent to his castle. It contains some of the most iconic horror imagery of the 20th century, most notably Orlok’s sinister shadow as he climbs the stairs.
Shadow Of The Vampire, the 2000 film in which Willem Dafoe plays actor Max Schreck during the production of
Nosferatu, is well worth seeking out.
The remake will tell “a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman in 19th century Germany and the ancient Transylvanian vampire who stalks her, bringing untold horror with him”
Lily Rose Depp and Bill Skarsgard will now headline the film.
Eggers will write and direct the production, as well as produce alongside Jeff Robinov, John Graham, Chris Columbus and Eleanor Columbus.
There is no release date for
Nosferatu but we’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
